Jazz Journey around the world
Jazz was born in New Orleans at the end of 19th century. In that era, the port of New Orleans was full of diverse people from Africa, Europe, South America and other parts of the world. People could find all sorts of colorful food, goods, fashion, culture and music from all around the world. It’s quite exciting to imagine the diversity and the energy that must have existed in New Orleans when jazz was just evolving from blues and ragtime. It turned out that jazz music was too energetic and adventurous to stay in one place and took off on its journey up the Mississippi River and then around America, and then off to the world, looking for a new encounter, something new and cool. The journey is still endless. In each destination, jazz has been grooving with local culture and music, evolving into various new shapes and stimulating us again and again.
EIGHT ISLANDS RECORDS is departing now with the mission of introducing jazz on journey around the world. As well as jazz’s geographic journey, the label will reveal music generated on the course of artist’s journey in pursuit of their own music.

EIGHT ISLANDS RECORDS へようこそ
19世紀末にニューオーリンズで生まれたジャズ。当時のニューオーリンズの港は、アフリカ、ヨーロッパ、南米など世界のあらゆる地域から来たさまざまな人種の人々、カラフルな食べ物や物品、ファッションや文化、そして世界のサウンドで溢れかえっていたと言う。
今の私たちの想像をきっと遙かに超えたダイバーシティが存在していたニューオーリンズ。そこでブルースやラグタイムをルーツに生まれたジャズはやがて蒸気船とともにミシシッピ川を上り、アメリカ各地にひろがり、そして世界へと旅だった。旅を続ける中でジャズは世界各地の音楽文化を取り入れながら、さまざまなスタイルに発展し、現在のジャズシーンをかたちづくってきた。
旅することでジャズは新たな姿をみせ、再び人々を刺激した。EIGHT ISLANDS RECORDSでは旅の中でたゆみなく自らを変化させてきた＜旅するジャズ＞をテーマに、豊かに進化し続けるジャズを紹介していくとともに、アーティスト自身が＜音楽を探求する旅＞の途上で生みだすさまざまな音楽も取り上げていきたい。
